When Scott Ashjian entered the race for U.S. Senate filing as an alleged "Tea Party" candidate, everyone said "What?" The Tea Party never heard of him. In fact, the Tea Party backed Sharron Angle.
At the time, folks speculated that his presence on the ballot as a "Tea Party" candidate would confuse the issue and thus maybe — just maybe — help Sen. Reid in a close race.
Subsequently, Ashjian met with Angle about exiting the race. Unbeknownst to Angle, Ashjian taped the conversation. The tape somehow wound up in the hands of the media in the form of Reid sycophant Jon Ralston.
Now comes the Patriot Majority PAC, which is running TV ads critical of Angle for trying to make a "backroom deal" with Ashjian. The ad mentions Ashjian by name and calls him the "Tea Party" guy. (Nice free advertising for the penniless Ashjian campaign, don’t you think?. )
The Patriot Majority PAC was created by Democratic Party strategist Craig Varoga.
Craig Varoga is the former communications director for Harry Reid.
So, let’s get this straight. Reid needs help in a close election. Ashjian magically appears on the ballot as the "Tea Party" candidate. Move along. Nothing to see here.
Ashjian then secretly tapes a private conversation with Angle and the tape winds up in the hands of Ralston. Ashjian then gets a boost in money from the Patriot Majority using the Ashjian-to-Ralston vehicle to criticize Angle. And, lest we forget, the brain child of the Patriot Majority is the former communication director for Reid.
Wow! That’s a convenient circle of political friends, isn’t it?
