Ensign on Kagan: “Will thoroughly review her background and record”
Sen. John Ensign put out the following statement today in reaction to
Solicitor General Elena Kagan’s nomination to join the U.S. Supreme Court
:
"I congratulate Ms. Kagan on her nomination to the nation’s highest court. As the Senate proceeds with this lifetime appointment, I will work with my colleagues to ensure that Ms. Kagan is treated fairly, just as we did with Justice Sotomayor. When considering her nomination, I will thoroughly review her background and record, including her brief litigation experience. I believe that the role of a Supreme Court Justice is to rule according to the text of the Constitution, not an interpretation of those words according to a political or personal agenda, and I look forward to seeing if Ms. Kagan shares this view."
