Family, Fur & Fun raises money for animal-rights group

More than 1,000 valley residents recently attended the inaugural Family, Fur & Fun Festival Oct. 13 at The Willows Park in Summerlin.

The event, which raised more than $13,000 for the Nevada Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, featured a full agenda of pet-oriented and pet-education activities.

More than 135 dogs and cats were micro-chipped and event-goers enjoyed the opportunity to adopt a pet, learn about proper pet care, pet massage and dog training tips, to name just a few.

According to Michelle Danks-Costello, publisher of Lucky Dog magazine, one of many sponsors of the event, proceeds from the event are planned to underwrite the NSPCA’s program for school-age children that promotes humane education.

“We’re so pleased with the success of this inaugural event that we’ve already started planning for the 2008 event,” Danks-Costello said.

“We hope to make it an annual tradition for valley residents and their four-legged friends.”
