Fond Farewell

It was a noble attempt, but Cheesecake and Crime is closing at the end of February, the victim of a brutal economy that made a tough job impossible.
It’s never easy for an independent bookseller to make it in a world filled with big chain stores and even bigger Web sites.
To fight the corporate giants, Pamela and Lendall Mains created what they hoped would be the perfect niche: mystery books (based on her love of the genre) and cheesecake (based on his recipes).
Opening in late 2007, the store at 10545 S. Eastern Ave. in Henderson hosted book clubs and offered a helping hand to local authors who wanted to share their works.
Big discounts are being offered on books and other items in the store to clear the shelves by Feb. 28.
But, the specialty cheesecake business will continue. The couple also will keep the store name and Web site (www.cheesecakeandcrime.com), so check it out for further developments.
