Glynda Rhodes grants child’s wish
George Lopez is battling leukemia. He loves soccer, dragons, trucks and SpongeBob SquarePants. However, it’s his love for cars that has helped him through rough times and long stays at the hospital.
While in the hospital for his treatment, George was the king of the road as he was pushed around and slept in a special car bed. His parents said that George found happiness in the car bed; it made him smile and laugh through some of the most difficult times. They said they boy’s wish was for his very own car bed and car-themed room to play in following his hospital stay.
Three members of the ID Interior Design staff were on hand March 7 make the little boy’s dream come true with a SpongeBob-and-cars-themed bedroom.
Glynda Rhodes, vice president of architectural and interior design at Rhodes Homes and president of ID Interior Design, learned about the opportunity to make George’s wish come true through Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada. The organization granted 121 wishes to local children with life-threatening medical conditions last year, and assisted nearly 60 children visiting Las Vegas to have their wishes granted.
In addition to fulfilling his modest request for a car bed, the design team surprised him with his own dresser, book shelves, flat-screen TV and toys, games, puzzles and movies.
“Getting to know George and seeing the look on his face when he entered his new room for the first time was very special and rewarding,” Rhodes said.
