Roadmap to Success business workshop set for Thursday
The Roadmap to Success workshop series has kicked off its 2012-13 season. In the seminars, participants can learn about finance, human resources, law, marketing, sales and technology.
The next workshop, “Are Leaders Born or Developed,” is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the Henderson Business Resource Center, 112 S. Water St. Seminars are free for Henderson Chamber of Commerce members and $25 for nonmembers.

Media company to host contest
for high-tech designers
MonReve Media and Keep Public Relations are hosting the first Design-A-Thon to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson. Contestants from the fields of graphic design, photography, videography, web design and other high-tech jobs are invited to compete in the event from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the M Resort, 12300 Las Vegas Blvd. South. In the competition, contestants must use their own laptops or tablets to showcase their creative skills. Networking opportunities also will be available.

Jazzercise Fitness Center is expected to open its second location Monday at the Sansone Park Place, 9500 S. Eastern Ave. The center’s first location is at 1450 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway.

Garden club to place Blue Star Memorial Byway marker at park
The Sunset Garden Club plans to place a Blue Star Memorial Byway marker at Silver Springs Park, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway, at 1 p.m. Oct. 13. The public is invited to attend the ceremony and enjoy refreshments.
The Blue Star Memorial program honors servicemen and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces. The National Garden Clubs adopted the program and began the Blue Star Highway System, which places markers at appropriate locations across the continental U.S., Alaska and Hawaii. Memorial markers and byway markers were later added to the highway markers to be used at locations such as national cemeteries, parks, veterans facilities and gardens.

COATS FOR KIDS DRIVE is under way
The 13th annual Coats for Kids drive is scheduled Monday through Nov. 3 at Albertsons stores across the valley.
Bring gently used coats to any Albertsons store and place them in the marked box at the front of the store. Aramark Uniforms will pick up the coats and drop them off at Al Phillips The Cleaner. They are distributed to needy children by The Salvation Army’s Family Services. As part of the Lucky 13 theme for this year, anyone who donates a coat can enter a drawing for one of 13 pairs of free tickets to see Carrot Top’s show at the Luxor. Entry forms are available at the Albertsons service desks.

For senior table tennis tournament
The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department plans to host its seventh annual Senior Warm-up Open Table Tennis Tournament from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 3-4 at the Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St. Participation is open to players 45 or older.
Entry is $15 per player, per event. Entry packets and online registration are available at cityofhenderson.com/parks (activity code 624106-48 for singles, 624106-49 for doubles and 624106-50 for mixed doubles) or in person by Monday at the Valley View Recreation Center. Entries may be accepted after Monday pending space availability. Registration will not be accepted at the event.

It’s All About Kidz TO HOLD FUNDRAISER
In celebration of its first year, It’s All About Kidz, a nonprofit that offers recovering mothers a place to live with their children, has planned its first fundraiser at 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 6 at The Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce in Town Square Las Vegas, 6671 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Suite 300. The event is set to be a fashion show and auction involving new and slightly used name brand clothing. Appetizers are planned.

AARP TAX-AIDE SEEKING VOLUNTEER HELP
AARP Tax-Aide NV, which prepares free personal income tax returns for residents in the lower- to middle-income brackets, is seeking unpaid volunteers to prepare taxes, greet clients and program computers in early 2013.
