Goodwill of Southern Nevada has had a busy year.
Since June 2012, the organization has opened or moved seven stores, including the latest to open this month at 741 S. Rainbow Blvd. The relocated shop has a 17,000-square-foot sales floor, drive-up donation center and a Career Connections Training Center that will offer free workshops, training and education to job seekers.
The new facility is six times the size of the original 4,000-square-foot store at 24,000 square feet. It offers men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, accessories, furniture, kitchenware, home decor and other goods. It’s the third store with a Career Connections component.

If you’ve heard that Smith’s is opening one of its Smith’s Marketplace locations in Southern Nevada, it’s not true. Yet.
“However, we think there is a future for that store format in Vegas and are keeping our eyes open,” spokeswoman Marsha Gilford said in an email.
There’s a Smith’s Marketplace under construction in Los Alamos, N.M., and another one or two planned for Utah. A Smith’s Marketplace store is a full Smith’s grocery store that is surrounded by additional departments related to home and family life — family clothing, housewares, home decor, paint, sports and outdoor equipment, and electronics. They average about 11,000 to 120,000 square feet.

At its first appearance in North America, World Routes 2013 is “bigger and better” than any other shows in its 19-year history, said Simon Parker, managing director of UBM Live, the event’s organizer.
“I think that gives real credence to hosting events in this amazing city,” Parker said of Las Vegas.
When the U.S. Travel Association hosted its IPW convention in the city earlier this year, organizers said the same thing. However, both shows will be traveling to Chicago next year for their annual conferences, which always are held in different locales.
