Police say man shot employee in argument over cigarette in Waffle House

A 45-year-old man was arrested Friday after an argument over a cigarette turned deadly inside a Waffle House in Biloxi, Miss.
Officials told WLOX Johnny Max Mount walked into the Waffle House about 1 a.m. Friday. Mount argued with an employee a spokeperson only described as “Julie,” over whether or not he could smoke in the restaurant.
Police said in the argument, Mount pulled out a 9mm handgun when she told him he could not smoke and he shot the employee in the head.
The victim, 52, was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.
“The suspect was arrested on the scene. When officers arrived, he was still on scene and was taken into custody,” said Sgt. Donnie Dobbs.
“This senseless tragedy is a shock for the Waffle House family,” Waffle House officials said in a statement. “Julie was a friend to many as well as a valued member of the Waffle House team. She will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with her family, friends, co-workers and customers.”
Mount has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held on $2 million bond.
