Sandoval slammers raise nearly $1.2 million

A Democratic-led group formed to attack Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian Sandoval raised nearly $1.2 million from January through May, according to a finance report filed with the Nevada Secretary of State.

The Committee to Protect Nevada Jobs raised $1,187,000 mostly from the Democratic Governors Association and labor unions. The group, organized by Dan Hart, a longtime consultant to Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rory Reid, has been using the money to attack Sandoval in advance of the Republican primary.

It sponsors television ads and a website that accuse Sandoval of being less conservative than former North Las Vegas Mayor Mike Montandon and incumbent Gov. Jim Gibbons.

Statewide polls show Sandoval, a former Nevada attorney general and former federal judge, would be the most difficult candidate for Reid to defeat in the fall.

The committee reported $500,000 from the Democratic Governors Association, $200,000 from the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and $170,000 from the Service Employees International Union, among other contributions.
