Swedish-born Alenius win World Series of Poker event
Tomas Alenius came from being down 3 to 1 in chips to become the second Swedish-born player in history to win a World Series of Poker gold bracelet.
Alenius, a former blackjack dealer and online poker player from Stockholm, won the $1,500 buy-in limit hold’em on Sunday at the Rio.
The 33-year-old defeated a field of 643 players in the event and collected $197,509 for first place.
His previous best World Series of Poker finish was a 21st-place finish in a 2006 event. He has $210,638 in career World Series of Poker winnings.
Fifth place was captured by Las Vegas resident Demetrios Arvanetes, a former Wall Street trader who cashed in the 2007 World Series of Poker main event.
