‘The Ruins’ not so bad

There’s still time to read "The Ruins" and then catch the movie on DVD.
For fans of horror, the book should be pretty enjoyable. You do have to overlook some of those "Who would do that?" questions that come up in horror novels, though the gore and creepiness should carry readers through.
The story follows two young couples on vacation in Mexico. They hook up with some foreign guys and head to an unknown-to-them part of Mexico to the site of an archaeological dig. (OK, who does that? I’d be sitting on the beach drinking a cerveza, but that’s just me.)
Needless to say, when they get to the dig site all kinds of bad stuff happens. The monster in the story is a little silly. I don’t want to give too much away, but when it was finally revealed I was kinda like … huh, that’s it … really?? But I kept reading.
The book reads like a screenplay, so I wasn’t surprised it was turned into a movie.
You aren’t going to learn the secret meaning of life in this book, but it should keep you entertained for a while.
