Valley-grown: Plant World celebrates 45 years rooted in Las Vegas

Plant World, 5301 W. Charleston Blvd., is an 8-acre nursery and zoo, of sorts, with animals including birds, tortoises, turtles, fish and cats. The location opened in 1967, and manager Brian Adams said it is “trying to create a paradise” in the desert.

The nursery has many animals for public viewing, including turtles, three tortoises, about 75 parrots, cats and rabbits.

Jennelle Robles was visiting the nursery with her three kids and their grandmother, Diana Petersen.

“They get to run around and look at the animals,” Petersen said. “It’s better than a park.”

Summerlin resident Tracy LaCroix took photos March 22 with her phone while repeating “hello” to a cockatoo, which replied “hello.” LaCroix said she enjoys coming to the nursery and talking to the birds.

She said she has heard some of them curse, too.
