Man arrested in connection with fire at Las Vegas police headquarters

Las Vegas police said they have arrested a suspect on Sunday in connection with the fire outside the department’s headquarters on Saturday.
The suspect, 35-year-old Christian Vega, is accused of setting fire to foliage near 400 South Martin L. King Boulevard. Vega was booked on Sunday on two counts of third-degree arson and one count of malicious destruction of private property.
The Metropolitan Police Department previously sent out a press release that said an employee first noticed a fire along the west property wall on Saturday. The Las Vegas Fire Department was called in and quickly extinguished the fire, according to the Metro press release.
As detectives investigated, they said a man between the ages of 25 and 35 who was wearing a black and white shirt, black pants and black shoes was seen walking through the south parking lot of Metro’s headquarters.
The man, later identified as Vega, was referred to in the press release as an arson suspect. Police, sharing photos of the man, had asked for help locating and identifying him.
“He entered the landscaping along the west wall that separates headquarters from an apartment complex and used an unknown item to ignite the foliage,” the press release said.
The man then jumped over the wall into the apartment complex, police said. There were no injuries related to the fire, and no buildings were damaged.
