Fashion Talk: The International Academy of Design & Technology invites members of the local fashion and retail communities, along with the general public, to attend its Design Series Friday, 7-8 p.m. This month’s presentation will be lead by local fashion writers Colleen Smiley, deputy editor of Vegas magazine, Leslie Frisbee, editor of Las Vegas Magazine and Xazmin Garza, fashion reporter for the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The event is free and open to the public.

Organizations will get $1.5 billion in business tax credits

BOSTON — Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner announced Wednesday that organizations working in 33 states would receive $1.5 billion in business tax credits fueled with federal stimulus money and aimed at creating and saving jobs in areas hit hard by the economic downturn.

Community Bancorp agrees to loan limitations

Community Bancorp, a $1.9 billion-asset holding company based in Las Vegas, and its key subsidiary, Community Bank of Nevada, signed a regulatory agreement to limit their loan concentrations in development and commercial real estate and to address several other regulatory concerns, the company said Wednesday.

Plan would have raised taxes; legislators begin overriding vetoes

As promised, Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons has vetoed the Legislature’s proposed $781 million package of tax increases as well as the spending it would have funded. Tonight, lawmakers overrode three of Gibbons’ eight vetoes. They will meet tomorrow in an attempt to override the rest.
