Designing kitchen space

For many years, the “work triangle” was the rule of thumb in kitchen design. The work triangle centers around the idea that the cooking space (range), preparation area (sink) and storage space (refrigerator) should be in a triangle. Back then, the kitchen was much smaller and a place where a single person did the cooking, so utility was top of mind. Through the years, however, the kitchen’s role in the house has shifted to a gathering place for many.
