Mir-Silva fight moved to Brazil
Las Vegan Frank Mir was supposed to have a quick trip down the highway for his upcoming fight against heavyweight Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva next month.
His commute just got a bit longer.
The fight was moved from UFC 184 in Los Angeles on Feb. 28 to the headline spot on the UFC Fight Night card in Porto Alegre, Brazil on Feb. 22.
A middleweight bout between Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida was supposed to fill the main event on that card, but Teixeira was forced to pull out due to an injury.
Fellow heavyweight and Las Vegan Roy Nelson also has his next fight booked. He will take on Alistair Overeem at UFC 185 in Dallas on March 14.
Lightweight champ Anthony Pettis will headline that event with a title defense against Rafael dos Anjos.
BELFORT PASSES TESTS — UFC 184 headliner Vitor Belfort has passed three random out-of-competition tests ahead of his title shot against middleweight champion Chris Weidman in Los Angeles on Feb. 28.
Though the fight is in California, the NAC is testing him because of concerns over a test that showed elevated testosterone levels earlier this year. The commission granted him a license after a hearing in July provided Belfort not compete before December, that he fully cooperates with random testing protocols and that his next fight would be in Nevada.
The commission then gave Belfort permission to fight in California, which also has stringent testing procedures in place. NAC officials originally said they would let California handle the pre-fight testing as well, before deciding to issue several tests to Belfort.
According to reports, Weidman passed a random test administered by the California commission.
