LETTERS: Madam Mayor, your husband isn’t helping

To the editor:

Truth be told, I backed Councilman Stavros Anthony for mayor in the Las Vegas municipal election. That said, I sincerely hope four more years of Mayor Carolyn Goodman’s leadership lead to fewer gaffes and more attention paid to the wishes of the people for whom she works (lest she need be reminded).

What bothers me, though, is the comment delivered by Mayor Goodman’s boorish husband and former mayor after she won re-election. Oscar Goodman could have taken the high road with even feigned collegiality, but instead said of Mr. Anthony, “He’s a piece of crap, this guy” (“Goodman scores goal,” April 8 Review-Journal).

I guess that’s all part of building that “world-class city” you keep talking about, Madam Mayor. But the comment kind of follows the “Sin City” moniker — tough, rude, uneducated, depraved and with a “me first, you last” attitude.

All I can say is that Mayor Goodman has her work cut out for her. Do yourself a favor, Madam Mayor: since Mr. Goodman has had his chance, leave him at home.

LETTER: Free health care?

For low-income people, I agree with the concept of tax credits to help offset the cost of insurance premiums. However, I question the current eligibility requirement of four times the poverty level.
