Nellis Air Force Base reopened its main gate about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday after a bomb threat.

A woman who claimed to have had a bomb inside a vehicle was taken into custody by Las Vegas police.

An Air Force explosive ordnance disposal team "investigated the situation, and emergency responders have determined no threat exists," Nellis public affairs officials said in a 2:40 p.m. news release.

The statement quotes 99th Air Base Wing commander Col. Richard H. Boutwell saying, "We are glad the situation terminated uneventfully. We take all threats to our Airmen, families and installation seriously."

The woman who was apprehended by police was transported to a hospital for assessment and treatment, said Metro spokesman Officer Larry Hadfield.

Nellis and local security personnel closed nearby roads and cordoned off an area near the base's main gate entrance at Craig Road and Las Vegas Boulevard where the incident unfolded at 11:50 a.m.

The Pentagon confirmed Friday that it has accepted an anonymous $130 million gift to help pay members of the military during the government shutdown, raising ethical questions after President Donald Trump had announced that a friend had offered the gift to defray any shortfalls.
