Families of men killed in drug-related crash release footage — VIDEO

Two men in the United Kingdom were killed in a crash while driving under the influence of illegal and prescription drugs, authorities said. Video footage before the fatal accident surfaced Tuesday morning.

Kyle Careford, 20, and Michael Owen, 21, of Tunbridge Wells, a town in western Kent, died instantly after crashing their vehicle into a church wall, police said.

According to Sussex police, the driver, Careford, did not have a driver's license.

Footage by Owen shows Careford driving about 90 mph, the Daily Mail reported. Owen leaves behind his 5-year-old daughter, Lily-Rose.

Their families released the video to police in order to spread awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence.

Owen's mother Kat said the men made bad decisions and, "If all this stops one person from making the same mistake, then some good has come from showing the video," Owen told BBC.

"I'm hoping it will have an impact on young people and make them see that a bit of fun can have such devastating consequences."

"This footage or anything of its kind should never be recorded, let alone watched," Careford's brother Zac Hemmind told the Daily Mail. "However, despite the pain of it being broadcast by the media, we as a family just hope and pray that this will connect with at least one person out there, young or old, so that no-one ever has to experience the unthinkable pain of losing someone so close and dearly loved."
