LETTERS: Obama takes U.S. in wrong direction

To the editor:

Regarding Richard Rychtarik’s letter (“Obama a good leader, ” Aug. 13 Review-Journal): In the course of President Barack Obama’s six years in the White House, when has he clearly demonstrated his ability to lead America while making good, sound decisions and judgment calls, the only thing he has come close to accomplishing so far is to continue working on his campaign promise to fundamentally change the face of America. The president, his czars in the White House and his cohorts in Congress are well on their way to making America into a Third World country.

President George W. Bush, while not perfect, left no doubt in the minds of America and the rest of the world exactly where he stood. We never had to question his loyalty to America. We never had to question his ability to uphold his oath to protect the Constitution and Bill of Rights. We never had to concern ourselves about whether or not he was truly a native-born American. He never spent millions to keep his personal information from the public. He never entertained extremists in the White House. He never ruled by executive fiat.

Please, someone enlighten me as to what sound decisions and judgments the president has made during the past six years. He has decimated our military, single-handedly divided this nation along racial lines, given us Obamacare (which the majority of the people did not want), done absolutely nothing to secure our borders and managed to alienate virtually every ally we have. Add to that his inability to put two coherent sentences together without the use of a teleprompter, and he is undoubtedly the saddest excuse for a president and commander-in-chief in this country’s history.

And Mr. Rychtarik thinks that we need more of the same in the White House and Congress? God forbid.

Incompetent president

To the editor:

While I have to say that Richard Rychtarik’s letter to the editor demonstrates his First Amendment rights, it also shows he must have his head in the clouds (“Obama a good leader, ” Aug. 13 Review-Journal). Barack Obama will be judged historically as the most inept, corrupt, wasteful, subversive, destructive and divisive president ever; a man twice elected because of the color of his skin rather than the content of his character.

I do agree with the writer’s assessment of Congress, although for different reasons.

Reid and Republicans

To the editor:

In your article on Harry Reid’s speech to the United Steelworkers, the Senate majority leader commented that Republicans are “simply not interested in helping American families” (“Reid urges unions to boost Dems,” Aug. 14 Review-Journal). It’s not surprising coming from Sen. Reid, but it’s still very disturbing that a comment like that would be made by a supposed leader of our U.S. Senate.

It is one thing to say one party’s approach to an issue is better than another’s. A comment such as that is subjective and open for debate. But Sen. Reid didn’t say that. His comment was made as if it were a factual statement; my guess is that he knows it is not true. I’m sure Sen. Dean Heller and Rep. Joe Heck would take issue with his statement.

The firm I was associated with before I retired took great pride in its industry knowledge, client service and professionalism. Business ethics were ever-present. Maybe someday political leaders will get the message.

Identity politics

To the editor:

Thank you for publishing Esther J. Cepeda’s commentary in the Aug. 10 Viewpoints section (“Hispanics don’t fit in one political party”). Such an article was long overdue, describing our family to a T.

For many years, we have resented being patronized. We have been lifelong Republicans, and while both parties have been patronizing, the Democrats have been the larger culprit. On occasion, we have voted for Democrats who are not so liberal and who have a worthwhile agenda.

Sadly, a lot of people who should pay attention to what Ms. Cepeda has to say will probably not read the article.
