Reno wildfire 95% contained; more rain, hail helps
RENO — A wildfire burning in the mountain wilderness above Reno for nearly a week is all but out.
Sierra Front incident commander Nate Rasner said the Hunter Falls Fire is 95 percent contained and should be fully contained by Friday.
Rain and hail pelted parts of the smoldering mountainside on Wednesday after up to 2 inches of snow fell there the day before.
Nearly 200 crew members remained on the scene but mostly in mop-up mode.
The fire broke out about 11 p.m. Saturday and burned about a square mile of timber, brush and grasses.
Authorities suspect it was human-caused because there was no lightning in the area but it remains under investigation.
