Lowden’s first ad hits Hutchison on Obamacare

Republican Sue Lowden’s first TV ad in her bid to become Nevada lieutenant governor slams her GOP foe Mark Hutchison for voting to implement Obamacare.

The 60-second spot is scheduled to begin airing Wednesday in Elko ahead of a Friday Lincoln Day dinner in the rural town where both candidates are to appear together.

Hutchison, a state senator from Las Vegas, opposed President Barack Obama’s health care insurance law and even worked for free as a lawyer to represent Nevada in its case to reject the law as unconstitutional.

But, like GOP Gov. Brian Sandoval, he approved starting Nevada’s own Silver State health exchange and expanding Medicaid to comply with the federal insurance mandate.

Lowden’s TV ad says, “There was a time when Senator Mark Hutchison was against Obamacare, but then he flip flopped.”

The ad says he voted three times for Obamacare, which most Nevadans opposed, polls showed.

The ad then asks where Hutchison stands now on Obamacare and shows a TV clip of him saying, “I think we need to start over again and get a bipartisan approach to the problem.”

The ad ends by noting Lowden favors allowing people to get health insurance “without government interference.”

Lowden “will continue to fight for what’s best for Nevada, not for what’s best for Washington,” the ad narrator says.
