North Las Vegas fire damages duplex

The North Las Vegas Fire Department responded to a duplex fire near Lake Mead Boulevard and North Fifth Street Tuesday night.

Firefighters arrived at the scene about 6:45 p.m. and found the duplex burning with flames that extended to the street, according to North Las Vegas Fire Capt. Cedric Williams.

The fire extended to the power lines and caused a power outage in the burning duplex. The fire was put out in approximately 90 minutes, Williams said.

Investigation determined the fire started in a carport. Damage was estimated at $100,000.
