Man given 24-year prison sentence in Kingman shooting death
KINGMAN, Ariz. — A 24-year prison sentence was imposed Tuesday for a Kingman man convicted of second-degree murder and other charges in a drug-related July 2011 shooting.
Russell Shields, 44, told a packed courtroom that he did not shoot and kill Alberto Orosco, 28, of Kingman.
“I am not a monster and I’m not a killer,” Shields said. “I’m about to get a zillion years for something I never did.”
Shields said it was co-defendant John Langan, 34, who shot Orosco. Langan is serving a near nine-year prison sentence for helping clean up the homicide scene, removing the victim’s body and scattering parts of the murder weapon over an area in the desert.
Shields will serve the homicide sentence upon completion of the 10 years he’s already serving for a drug conviction. He could get five more years in a pending drug case.
