BIRDING EVENT PLANNED FOR NOV. 16

The city of Henderson is scheduled to host “Birding Under the Stars” at 5 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, 350 E. Galleria Drive.

The staff is expected to guide participants on a special look at night wildlife.

Tickets cost $14. The event is open to people 8 or older.

The city of Henderson is scheduled to host the annual City Hall in the Mall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Galleria at Sunset, 1300 W. Sunset Road.

The event is expected to have city officials and representatives for residents to interact with.

The city also seeks residents’ feedback on programs and projects.

EVENT TO CELEBRATE DISCOVERY OF PUERTO RICO

An event to commemorate the discovery of Puerto Rico is scheduled at 5 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Terrace, 1361 W. Warm Springs Road.

Tickets are $40 and include food and dancing.

The event is expected to benefit the Puerto Rican Association Scholarship Fund.

HENDERSON SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR HOLIDAY DECORATING CONTEST

Henderson’s 2013 annual Outdoor Holiday Decorating Contest is slated to run through Dec. 9.

This year’s theme is “holiday traditions in the desert.”

The entry deadline is Dec. 2 and is limited to the first 50 applicants.

DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY SERVICES TO LAUNCH ONLINE CAREGIVER TRAINING

The Clark County Department of Family Services plans to launch Just In Time Training, a new online caregiver training program. The program provides caregivers with tools to enhance their parenting skills.

Caregivers can access hundreds of videos, with topics ranging from discipline, family integration, toilet training and working with biological families. The training sessions can be viewed 24 hours a day at qpinevada.com.

In addition to the video training, the site will provide access to interactive webinars where participants can ask questions in real time.

NEVADA STATE BANK PLANS FOOD DRIVE TO BENEFIT LAS VEGAS RESCUE MISSION

The Nevada State Bank plans to host a food drive through Nov. 8 to benefit the Las Vegas Rescue Mission, 480 W. Bonanza Road.

Nonperishable food items can be dropped off at any Nevada State Bank branch. Suggested items include instant potatoes, canned vegetables, rice, pasta, canned/instant soup, ramen noodles, cranberries/cranberry sauce and boxed stuffing.

SURPLUS AUCTION PLANNED NOV. 23

The largest government surplus auction of 2013 is scheduled for 8 a.m. Nov. 23 at 4320 Stephanie St.

The auction is set to offer vehicles, office equipment, lost and found electronics and other items used or acquired by government agencies, including McCarran International Airport, the Metropolitan Police Department and the area cities and state of Nevada.

Participants are urged to register as bidders during the preview and preregistration period set to open at the Stephanie Street site three days before the auction. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 20 through Nov. 22. Participants must present a valid ID to register. There is no cost to register.
