Inmate dies in Nevada prison; fourth death in October

Another inmate died in the Northern Nevada Correctional Center this week, the fourth inmate death in October at that state prison in Carson City.

Joseph Oxford-McArthur, who was serving a one- to three-year sentence for domestic battery charges, was found in his cell unresponsive on Monday, according to officials with the Nevada Department of Corrections.

He was transported to Carson Tahoe Hospital, where he died late Friday evening.

Another inmate died Monday, according the prison officials. That man’s identity has not yet been released.

Also, inmate Larry Peck died Oct. 4, and inmate Richard Ferst was found dead the next day.

No foul play was suspected in the three previous October deaths, said prison officials. Oxford-McArthur’s death was still under investigation so details weren’t released as of Saturday afternoon.
