Missing nuclear gauge found

A nuclear gauge that went missing off of a truck Tuesday was found and returned Friday afternoon.

The orange nuclear density gauge fell off the truck near Charleston and Lamb boulevards. It had an electronic keypad display, a metal probe, a 22-inch handle and was labeled radioactive and marked with a radiation symbol, manufactured by Campbell Pacific Nuclear and owned by Geo Tek Inc.

The gauge contains radioactive sources used to measure density and moisture of soil and construction materials. It doesn’t pose a risk to the operators or present a widespread public safety hazard when used properly. If tampered with, there is a risk of radiation poisoning to the person handling the gauge.
