Recall drives under way against two White Pine commissioners

ELY — A group has filed notices of intent to recall two White Pine County commissioners over their conduct and handling of the county’s budget.

The Ely Times reported James Adams, Timothy McGowan and Cheryl Noriega filed the notices against Commissioners John Lampros and Mike Lemich earlier this week

Among other things, the notices blame the commissioners for the county’s fiscal woes and note the county faces a $1.4 million-plus budget shortfall.

The petitions also accuse Lampros of exhibiting “very unprofessional behavior,” and Lemich of being the target of several state and local investigations.

Lemich said he’ll issue a full statement later, but isn’t concerned about the recall drive.

Lampros said he finds the recall “very disconcerting” and the work of “new outsiders ... thinking they can take over and do whatever they want.”

Recall organizers have 90 days to submit signatures equal to 25 percent of the voters who cast ballots in the last election involving the two commissioners.
