Woman driving in wrong direction hits semitrailer, dies

A 55-year-old woman was killed after a head-on collision with a semitrailer on Interstate 15 outside Mesquite on Thursday, Nevada Highway Patrol said.

NHP received multiple calls of a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lanes along I-15 just before noon.

Moments after troopers spotted the 2007 Chevrolet truck traveling in the wrong direction, it collided head-on with a semitrailer traveling northbound near mile marker 113, according to NHP.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clark County coroner. The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to a St. George, Utah, hospital.

It is unknown whether the driver of the Chevrolet was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, NHP said.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office.
