Quake hits near Tonopah

TONOPAH — A magnitude 4.0 earthquake Thursday struck a part of Nevada near the California line that has been shaking for some time.

The temblor was recorded at
7:29 a.m. southeast of Hawthorne and northwest of Tonopah, about 25 miles south of Mina near the intersections of U.S. Highway 95 and U.S. Route 6.

The Mineral County Sheriff’s Office reported no damage.

The Nevada Seismological Laboratory reported it was an aftershock from a 5.1 quake that hit in the same area on Feb. 12. It was in almost the identical spot as a 3.5 magnitude quake recorded on Sunday near Coldale Junction.
