4.9 quake hits Tonopah

TONOPAH - A moderate earthquake has struck in rural Nevada near the California state line.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude 4.9 earthquake hit at 4:10 p.m.

It was centered 45 miles west of Tonopah, and followed by two smaller earthquakes recorded at magnitudes 3.1 and 3.3.

The smaller earthquakes also were west of Tonophah.

A Nye County sheriff's dispatcher said she felt the earthquake in Tonopah but there were no immediate reports of damage.
