Medical examiner: Kayaker killed himself at Lake Mead

KINGMAN, Ariz. - A kayaker found dead on Lake Mead in October committed suicide, the Mohave County medical examiner has concluded.

Dr. Rexene Worrell said toxicological analysis supports her determination that Kenneth Ritter, 54, took his own life while kayaking.

The National Park Service said the body of the Naperville, Ill., resident was located along the shoreline of the Arizona side of the lake about 1 p.m. Oct. 4.

Ritter was not wearing his life vest. His body and kayak were found close together about two miles northeast of Hoover Dam.

Worrell said Ritter suffered from severe lung disease and died from a deliberate overdose of benadryl.
