Henderson reinstates three inspector positions

Some good economic news from Henderson: An increase in development activity means the city can afford to hire three inspectors whose positions were previously eliminated.

"There's enough demand to bring those people back on board," City Manager Jacob Snow said.

The City Council voted Tuesday to add two building inspectors and a fire inspector to the Development Services Center staff. Officials predict the cost of funding those positions through June 30 - about $200,000 - will be offset by revenue related to the rise in service demands.

Snow also said the additional staff will allow the city to offer inspection services seven days a week, "just so we can be quicker and more responsive."

He said the city needs to process building permits in a timely manner to avoid a backlog that could stall development.

City Hall operates Monday through Thursday.

Fees paid by developers are expected to produce the revenue to cover the cost of the new inspectors, Snow said.
