Charging decision pending in Reno police officer’s death

RENO - Authorities say it could be a month before prosecutors decide whether to file charges in a motorcycle accident that killed a Reno police officer in Idaho.

Idaho State Police told the Reno Gazette-Journal that the accident still needs to be reconstructed before prosecutors get the case.

Police said 30-year-old Scott Heglar was off-duty and riding with friends on Interstate 84 in Idaho's Canyon County when he was rear-ended by a car in a four-vehicle crash on July 11. He was on life support before dying Saturday at a Boise hospital.

Heglar was an eight-year veteran of the police force. He is survived by a wife and four children.

A funeral is set for Aug. 4.
