Transportation Department names director replacement

CARSON CITY - A 24-year veteran of the Nevada Department of Transportation has been chosen to succeed Susan Martinovich as agency director.

Rudy Malfabon was selected Monday by the state Transportation Board as the top choice from a field of four finalists, according to the Nevada Appeal.

The 53-year-old Malfabon has been the agency's deputy director for Southern Nevada since 2003. He holds a degree in civil engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno, and is a licensed professional engineer in Nevada and Washington state and rose through the ranks at the department.

The job is a Cabinet-level post that pays a maximum of $124,583 a year.

Martinovich is the first female director of the department. She has held the post for five years and is retiring this fall.
