Democratic values — abortion and Godless government

Is there a smaller, more insignificant group this political season than Sen. Harry Reid's Mormon Democrats for Obama?

It's hard to imagine one. But there they were yesterday -- in all their glory and hypocrisy -- gathered in Charlotte, N.C., for the Democratic National Convention.

And things didn't turn out so well for a group trying to convince Mormons to consider the Democratic Party.

The Democratic Party removed the word "GOD" from its party platform. And then all night speaker after speaker took the podium to advocate for the right to abortion. Each time abortion was mentioned -- or its code phrase "woman's right to chose" -- Democrats cheered and cheered. Abortion is the Democratic Party. And if you are a Mormon and want to be a good Democrat, then you best do what Harry Reid has already done -- fall in line and become abortion compliant.

Even the party's nominee -- President Barack Obama -- voted as an Illinois state senator to allow abortion doctors to kill babies that miraculously escape the abortion procedure and enter this world alive.

Can you imagine Sen. Reid advocating his fellow churchman to support that? Well, he essentially does when he advocates a vote for Barack Obama.

But put a aside the issue of abortion for a moment (which I believe a good Mormon cannot do) and think what it must have been like for Mormons attending the DNC to view this video which said -- and I kid you not -- that the one thing all Americans belong to is government. What? Is there anything that cuts across the grain of the American Mormon pioneer ethic than a statement like that?

Yet, there is ol' Sen. Reid telling the most endangered of all birds -- the Mormon Democrat -- that this presidential election "is not about religion. It's about values."

Killing babies and a government without God? Nice values, Harry.
