Hill’s hot streak ends as Isotopes rally to sink 51s
Jerry Sands hit a go-ahead two-run double in the sixth inning Thursday night to send the Albuquerque Isotopes to an 8-5 win over the 51s in a Pacific Coast League game in Albuquerque, N.M.
With the score tied at 4 and two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Las Vegas starter Shawn Hill walked Ivan De Jesus and gave up a single to Alex Castellanos before Sands brought home both runners with a line drive to center field.
Hill (6-1), who had won his previous five starts dating to July 7, was touched for six runs on 12 hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out one.
Danny Perales had an RBI single in the 51s' two-run first inning and a two-run homer in the sixth that tied the score at 4.
De Jesus had an RBI triple and Castellanos a run-scoring double in a three-run first inning for Albuquerque (65-48).
Matt Angle had a two-out RBI single in the fifth and finished 4-for-5 for the Isotopes, who had a 15-7 edge in hits. Josh Fields added a double, two singles and an eighth-inning sacrifice fly.
Albuquerque starter John Ely (11-7) held Las Vegas (63-49) to four runs on five hits and two walks in seven innings. He struck out four. Josh Wall worked the final two-thirds of an inning for his 20th save.
The teams will play the third game in their four-game set at 6:05 p.m. today.
