Two-homer inning propels Reno victory over 51s
Adam Eaton and Josh Bell homered to account for Reno's three-run fifth inning, and the host Reno Aces went on to an 8-6 victory over the 51s on Sunday in the Pacific Coast League.
With Reno leading 4-3 after a three-run fourth, Eaton led off the fifth with his third homer of the season against Las Vegas starter Joel Carreno (2-3). After a single that chased Carreno and a forceout, Bell belted his fifth, a two-run blast off Tim Redding.
Reno added a run in the seventh on Cole Gillespie's fourth single, building an 8-3 lead that was big enough to weather the 51s' three-run eighth.
The Aces (49-35), who lead the Pacific North Division, had seven of their 14 hits against Carreno, who allowed six runs (five earned) in four innings.
The 51s (47-36) had 15 hits, including homers in the fourth by Moises Sierra (his 15th) and Mike McCoy (third). Eric Thames and Jonathan Diaz both went 3-for-4.
The teams continue their series at 7:05 p.m. today and 6:35 p.m. Tuesday.
