RENO - An associate professor at the University of Nevada, Reno has been named Nevada's new state climatologist.

In his new role, Douglas Boyle will help collect and interpret Nevada's climate and weather data and assist in drought planning.

Boyle says he will explore new ways to approach what the Nevada Climate Office does for the community, making it more open and efficient.

Boyle is an associate professor in the Department of Geography at UNR's Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering.

He is also a watershed hydrologist with more than 20 years of experience modeling and developing surface and groundwater systems in arid and semi-arid environments, including the Great Basin, the Tibetan Plateau and areas of South America.
