Nevada half of wildfire nearly contained; Oregon half left
DENIO - Firefighters said Wednesday that higher humidity has helped them all but contain the Nevada portion of a huge wildfire burning on both sides of the Nevada-Oregon state line.
They said the Holloway Fire died down and stopped spreading Tuesday night.
The fire has burned 675 square miles of sagebrush since it was sparked by lightning Aug. 5. Half of the fire is in Nevada and half in Oregon.
Firefighters were working to contain the fire by clearing vegetation from the advancing flames.
On Wednesday, they had all but contained the fire in Nevada, but there was plenty of work left to do in Oregon. Total containment is at 68 percent.
Ten other large wildfires in Northern Nevada include the Hanson Fire, which has burned 19 square miles and is 65 percent contained.
