Fishing Report, April 19

■ LAKE MEAD - Fishing has been tough . Anglers are looking forward to a respite from the spring winds. Plastics are catching largemouth and smallmouth bass. Spinnerbaits and crankbaits have taken fish as well. Striper action is slow, but the Vegas Wash area continues to give up a few small fish to anglers using cut bait or trolling.

■ LAKE MOHAVE - Striped bass action has slowed considerably in the Willow Beach area. Despite heavy fishing traffic, anglers are reporting slow action for striped bass. On the other hand, stocked rainbow trout have provided good action for anglers tossing baits from the shoreline. PowerBait, spinners, lures and salmon eggs are working. Farther south, anglers are catching striped bass from Cottonwood Cove south toward the dam. Largemouth and smallmouth bass have been taking plastics and jigs.

■ LAUGHLIN - Anglers are finding slow fishing for rainbow trout left from winter stocking, but striped bass action is beginning to improve.

■ URBAN PONDS - The Nevada Department of Wildlife is set to begin its annual catfish stocking program. The monthly plants will begin next week and continue until October. There will be no plant in July because of the heat. Meanwhile, anglers have found fair-to-good action for bluegill at Floyd Lamb and Veterans Memorial parks. There is still a chance to catch rainbow trout holding in the deep water and cover. The limit is three fish.

■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA - Anglers have been finding good action for stocked and carry-over rainbow trout. The NDOW planted 5,600 trout in Cold Springs on Saturday. Bass fishing should improve as the water temperature warms.

■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR - The NDOW recently stocked rainbow trout and tiger trout. Anglers are finding good action for planters and holdover fish. Fish are biting on just about any traditional trout bait, including spinners, lures, PowerBait and night crawlers.

■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR - Crappie are starting to show along the dam. Stocked rainbows are providing good action for trout anglers throwing small spinners and lures. Fish also are biting PowerBait and night crawlers.
