BLM approves geothermal exploration east of Fallon

CARSON CITY -- The Bureau of Land Management has given the OK for Ormat Technologies Inc. to proceed with a geothermal exploration project in Northern Nevada.

The proposed Tungsten Mountain project involves 610 acres of public lands about 60 miles east of Fallon, in Churchill County's Edwards Creek Valley.

BLM's approval allows construction of 27 exploration well drill pads, and exploration drilling of wells to a depth of about 7,000 feet.

It also allows for constructing, improving or maintaining access roads and the drilling of temporary water wells.

Exploration will allow Ormat to evaluate the Tungsten Mountain region's potential for geothermal energy development.
