Woman’s killer sentenced nine years after slaying

KINGMAN, Ariz. -- Closure was a long time coming for family members of Theresa Davis whose killer was sentenced to prison on Friday, the ninth anniversary of her death.

The body of the 45-year-old woman, whose throat was slashed, was found near a cemetery in a remote area of Arizona's Mohave Valley.

The victim's son and daughter spoke of their loss and how they've waited so long for justice.

Prosecutor Victoria Stazio told Mohave County Judge Steve Conn that DNA evidence linked 47-year-old Robert Dyer, of Topock, Ariz., to the crime. The defendant has a substantial mental health history and faced 10 to 13 years in prison under a second-degree murder plea agreement in the case.

"I'd like ten years," Dyer blurted when asked if he had anything to say prior to sentencing.

Judge Conn sent Dyer to the Department of Corrections for 13 years.
