Court upholds slaying conviction

CARSON CITY -- The Nevada Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of Clifford McClain, who was found guilty of first-degree murder in the 2008 death of his ex-wife.

A three-judge panel on Tuesday rejected McClain's arguments that his conviction should be overturned because of trial errors.

Justices said while some errors were made during trial, there was strong evidence of McClain's guilt.

Allianna McClain's body was found Feb. 17, 2008 at a home in northwest Las Vegas. Clifford McClain was sentenced to 20 years to life.

At his trial, McClain said the two were arguing and he was trying to protect himself when she reached for a knife. He said they became tangled and his ex-wife struck her head on a parked car and the garage floor.

Authorities said she was strangled.
