Mining companies donating $100,000 to train principals

Two mining companies with operations in Nevada are each donating $50,000 to help launch a statewide academy to train school principals.
Officials said Thursday the $100,000 from Barrick Gold of North America and Newmont Mining Corporation will go to the nonprofit Public Education Foundation and will be matched with $100,000 in Nevada general funds.
The arrangement comes after the Legislature passed a bill this year calling for a training program that involves all 17 school districts in the state.
