■ LAKE MEAD -- Cold and windy weather slowed fishing activity through the weekend and into the beginning of the week. Anglers willing to brave the conditions found good fishing for striped bass along the shoreline in the Hemenway area and from Vegas Wash to Government Wash. Early-morning hours have been the most productive, with shad imitations and live shad catching fish. Action and fishing activity near Temple Bar has slowed.
■ LAKE MOHAVE -- Temperatures at Cottonwood Cove are keeping some anglers away, but those who brave the chill can find striped bass in the nearby coves. At Willow Beach, large stripers still are showing following weekly trout plants by the Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery. Trout anglers are having success with traditional trout baits and hardware.
■ LAUGHLIN -- Stocked rainbows are providing anglers with good fishing from Davis Camp past Casino Row, and a few carry-over fish from past plants are taking baits as well. Some anglers have found success for striped bass while throwing plugs and swim baits in trout patterns. Construction limits access to the Nevada side of the Colorado River below the bridge.
■ URBAN PONDS -- Action for stocked rainbows has been good following the weekly fish plants by the Nevada Department of Wildlife. Fly patterns, spinners, worms and commercial trout baits are catching fish. Flies can be fished with a spinning rod. Tie the fly about 6 feet behind a clear bubble and reel in at varying speeds until you figure out what the fish like.
■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- The reservoirs are all still ice-free, but that might change as temperatures have dropped significantly in recent days. Trout fishing has slowed, though diligent anglers might find success with flies or baits.
■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- As of this writing, the reservoir still is open, though anglers will find ice along the north shoreline. Fishing has been slow, but patient fishermen are catching a few trout. Check the weather before making the trip.
■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Anglers might find ice along the shoreline, but the reservoir still is open. The trout bite has slowed way down, but determined anglers still are catching a few fish. Check the weather before making the trip.
