Franklin’s free throws fuel Aztecs past Long Beach State in overtime
SAN DIEGO -- Jamal Franklin hit two free throws with 3.9 seconds left in overtime on Saturday to lift San Diego State past Long Beach State, 77-73.
Franklin scored 14 of his team-high 21 points after halftime for the Aztecs (5-1), who improved their winning streak over unranked opponents to 47. James Rahon had 20 points, and Xavier Thames scored eight of his 15 points in overtime for San Diego State.
Long Beach State was coming off an 86-76 road upset over No. 9 Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
Casper Ware led the 49ers (2-1) with a game-high 26 points, and Larry Anderson added 25 points.
Trailing by two, Ware was fouled by Franklin with 3.3 seconds left in regulation and made a pair of free throws to tie the score at 65 and extend the game into overtime.
■ Green Bay 52, Wyoming 44 -- At Green Bay, Wis., Alec Brown had 15 points and eight rebounds, and the Phoenix (2-2) held off the Cowboys.
Leonard Washington led Wyoming (2-1) with 11 points and nine rebounds, and JayDee Luster scored 10 points.
■ Boise State 103, Cal State Northridge 61 -- At Boise, Idaho, Thomas Bropleh scored 17 of his career-high 20 points in the first half to lead the Broncos to a rout of the Matadors (0-3).
Igor Hadziomerovic scored a career-best 18 points for Boise State (3-0), and Anthony Drmic added 14 points.
■ Southern Mississippi 79, Colorado State 58 -- At Fort Collins, Colo., LaShay Page hit 8 of 11 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 30 points as the Golden Eagles (2-1) beat the Rams.
Greg Smith had 18 points and Jesse Carr 13 for the Rams (2-2).
