Carson City relives story of wandering bears

CARSON CITY -- Nevada wildlife officials have captured a mother bear and two cubs in a Carson City neighborhood.

State Wildlife Department spokesman Chris Healy said the three bears wandered into the area on Sunday.

One cub was caught in a trap Sunday night about a mile west of the state Capitol. Wildlife biologists tranquilized the other two bears on Monday.

A state tattoo showed the mother had been captured and released in 2004.

Healy said they will do an investigation to see whether she has been in any other trouble. If she is not a "problem bear," he said the trio probably could be returned to the wild as soon as today.

Residents told the Reno Gazette-Journal seven bears have been captured around that neighborhood this year.
