Reward offered in theft of Henderson gun store

Local and federal authorities have offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the theft of a gun store in Henderson last month.

Henderson police and officials with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said Tuesday that information from the public could lead to five suspects accused of stealing 22 firearms that authorities believe might be used to commit additional crimes.

"Stolen firearms are frequently used in violent crimes by prohibited individuals and gang members," Stephen C. Herkins with the ATF's San Francisco Field Division said in a statement.

Henderson Police Chief Jutta Chambers said in a statement, "It is crimes like this that can put guns into the wrong hands and spawn additional crimes creating more victims."

The burglary occurred at 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 13 when the suspects drove a stolen vehicle to Lock and Loaded Tactical at 9340 S. Eastern Ave. The suspects fled in a second, dark-colored vehicle, authorities said.

Authorities believe a suspect left behind a New York Yankees baseball cap -- New Era brand, size 7 3/8.

Anyone with information on the burglary should call the ATF hot line at 1-800-ATF-GUNS or Crime Stoppers at 385-5555. Henderson police can be called at 267-4750.
