Boulder City Fine Arts Festival returns this weekend

The 26th Boulder City Fine Arts Festival is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Bicentennial Park, 401 California Ave., Boulder City.

Artists from seven southwestern states are slated to show their wares in all media. Proceeds from the show are used to fund scholarships for high school seniors who are planning to take art classes in college.

The 10th annual Pure Aloha Festival is scheduled to take place Thursday through Sunday at the Silverton, 3333 Blue Diamond Road.

former review-journal editor's exhibit now open at left of center art gallery

A tribute to the photography of the late Las Vegas Review-Journal assistant city editor Warren Bates is at Left of Center Art Gallery, 2207 W. Gowan Road.

The exhibit is called "Road to Zzyzx." Its images document deserted areas in and around the desert settlement. It is scheduled to run through June 4.

Bates died in April 2010 seven miles outside of the California ghost town of Amboy, more than 130 miles from Las Vegas, when a train broadsided his car. He was 49.
